Nickolas Solan
I have a devotion toward filmmaking and storytelling that began in early childhood with a fascination for a family video camera and evolved into a disciplined creative pursuit. Rediscovering old home videos reignited a passion for visual storytelling, leading to years of experimentation in photography, editing, and sound design.
A pivotal influence emerged in 2015 through the work and philosophy of David Lynch, particularly during the anticipation of Twin Peaks: The Return, which shaped my surreal, psychologically driven style. Using limited resources when first starting—such as filming a perfume bottle on a skateboard with a Canon T5i—I discovered the power of deliberate movement and mood.
Screenwriting followed, including an ambitious personal project in high school lead me to write me first feature in 2017. From then onward, I produced nearly 100 YouTube videos, multiple short films, documentaries, and Award Winning feature scripts, integrating psychology, ethics, and personal history.
Drawing on themes of identity, loss, and empathy, the author continues to refine a cinematic voice while pursuing formal training and professional growth as a filmmaker and writer.

It all began with a snail…
In my freshman year of high school, I took a photography class. A photo of a snail stretching out from one leaf to another was a springboard into my journey. I was an award-winning photographer for close-ups within a year of my participation in photography. This resulted in me taking another photography class and buying my own camera.
I had a urge to capture pictures with the sun beaming from behind my subjects. As I continued wanting to capture pictures and gravitating towards videos, these deliberate placings of the camera to get the feel of the moving images, was something I could not suppress.
Hi there…
My exploration of ethics and psychology led me to examine worldviews, uncovering meaning
deep beneath visual displays. I am compelled to understand how screenwriting impacts
filmmaking, capturing poignant moments that draw audiences into the story. The considerations
and moral obligations of writers to cast, crew, budget, and legal protocols require my ability to
construct a cohesive, holistic approach to my scripts. In my current television pilot, I
incorporated studies in psychology to introduce human behavior, motivations, and directorial
support crucial to conveying emotions.
